Charles V

Heir of the Habsburgs, Charles V united Spain, the Low Countries, the Holy Roman Empire and the American conquests, fought the Lutheran Reformation and the Ottomans as champion of universal Catholicism, crushed the Comuneros and abdicated in 1556.
