SOURCES, METHODS & OPEN QUESTIONS

Know what’s behind
your result.

A useful assessment should make its sources, scoring and limits easy to find. Here is what each form uses, what we have changed, and what still needs research.

01

Source evidence

Research on an instrument informs the choice of questions. Its population, language, administration and intended interpretation still matter.

02

Software fidelity

Source keys, versioned records and implementation checks help establish that the code behaves as specified. They do not establish psychological validity.

03

Ownfacet research

No independent participant validation or representative norms have been established for our administration and result explanations. That remains future work.

9 SEPARATE FORMS / ONE OPEN COLLECTION

Different questions.
Different evidence.

These forms keep separate answers, score meanings and versions. Public-domain or licensed source material does not mean that the source author endorses this website.

Exploratory model

politype-2026-03

Political perspectives

48 core statements · 0–24 optional clarifications

Source & rights

Ownfacet’s editorial twelve-axis questionnaire.

Site-authored questionnaire. Catalog material has separate provenance and image contexts.

Our implementation
Balanced pole scoring (balanced-poles-2); equal-weight distance matching (rms-2). Earlier supported wording editions keep their own answers. Optional statements clarify selected dimensions; they are not calibrated adaptive testing.
Interpretation boundary
No participant study establishes this form’s structure, reliability, norms, or matching accuracy. Coverage and arithmetic sensitivity describe the model; they are not confidence intervals.

ipip-bffm-50-v1

Personality overview

50 statements · 5 factor markers

Source & rights

IPIP Big-Five Factor Markers: five complete ten-item scales.

Public-domain IPIP items, scales and inventories; commercial and noncommercial use permitted.

Our implementation
All 50 source items and scoring keys are retained. Our instructions emphasize typical current behavior; the source sample also asks for comparison with others of roughly the same age and sex. Explanations and interface are Ownfacet’s.
Interpretation boundary
Five broad self-report scales. The display scale is not a population percentile. This form cannot produce the thirty facets of IPIP-NEO-120.

120 statements · 5 domains · 30 facets

Source & rights

IPIP-NEO-120 (Johnson, 2014)

Public-domain IPIP items and keys.

Our implementation
The complete 120-item inventory keeps its published numbered order and keyed scoring. It has independent answers and a separate result from the overview.
Interpretation boundary
Keyed averages from 1 to 5. Published development research supports the source inventory; it does not supply representative Ownfacet norms or validate our result narratives.

Career interests

60 activities · 6 interest areas

Source & rights

O*NET® Interest Profiler™ computerized Short Form.

O*NET Tools Developer License, with attribution and source disclaimers. The license distinguishes software-only integration from content modifications.

Our implementation
Complete official 60-activity form, original order, anchors and area keys. Ten 0–4 ratings per area sum to 0–40. Ties stay visible.
Interpretation boundary
Interests, not aptitude, career-fit probabilities or job performance. Ownfacet’s interface and explanations have not been independently validated or endorsed by USDOL/ETA.

onet-miniip-30-v1

Career interests · brief

30 activities · 6 interest areas

Source & rights

O*NET® Mini Interest Profiler (Mini-IP), official computerized form.

O*NET Tools Developer License; the same attribution and independent-implementation limits apply.

Our implementation
The complete official 30-activity form has its own items, answers and saved result. Five 0–4 ratings per area sum to 0–20. This is a researched short form, not a selection of questions by Ownfacet.
Interpretation boundary
A briefer interest inventory for limited time or mobile use. The 30- and 60-item raw totals use different ranges and must not be read as change scores.

Research beta

omib-set1-22-v1

Matrix reasoning

22 scored tasks · 2 unscored practice examples

Source & rights

Open Matrices Item Bank (OMIB), Koch et al. (2022)

Source-derived OMIB materials distributed under GNU GPL version 3. The scoped notice and editable source materials are included with the site.

Our implementation
Original Set 1 matrix stimuli and construction responses. Six unkeyed source anchors are omitted. Two Ownfacet practice examples are unscored. This untimed, pausable 22-task form differs from the published 28-item forms.
Interpretation boundary
Exact matches out of 22 describe performance on these tasks. The source calibration sample does not supply website population norms. No IQ score, percentile, or broad cognitive score.

Published scales · preprint evidence

ipip-via-r-96-v1

Character strengths

96 statements · 24 scales

Source & rights

IPIP-VIA-R · 96-item character strengths scales

Public-domain IPIP material. This is distinct from the VIA Institute’s official survey.

Our implementation
All 96 source items and positive/negative keys are retained. Ownfacet’s fixed interleaving is an administration choice, not a verified source-study order.
Interpretation boundary
Four-item self-report averages from 1 to 5. The cited research is a preprint/working paper; reliability varies by scale. No population norms, forced signature strengths or moral-worth score.

Clarification exercise

miller-card-sort-2011-v1

Personal values

100 cards · 5 importance groups

Source & rights

Personal Values Card Sort · Miller and colleagues (2011).

The authors place the Personal Values Card Sort in the public domain and permit copying or adaptation without further permission.

Our implementation
Ownfacet presents the complete 100-card 2011 deck in a browser, with optional priority ranking. Blank other-value cards from the source PDF are not collected in this edition. The optional Ownfacet context journal is a separate reflection tool; its notes and custom values do not change the source cards, sorted groups or priorities.
Interpretation boundary
Your sorted groups and optional five-to-ten ranked priorities are your choices. No psychometric score, population ranking or inferred Schwartz values.

Interpersonal patterns

32 statements · 8 interpersonal scales

Source & rights

IPIP Interpersonal Circumplex · Markey & Markey (2009).

Public-domain IPIP inventory. No rehosted attachment questionnaire.

Our implementation
All 32 source statements, original order and all-positive keys are retained. Four responses per octant produce eight separate averages from 1 to 5.
Interpretation boundary
General self-reported behavior around others. Source research does not establish Ownfacet norms, attachment types, partner characteristics, or compatibility.

POLITICAL ATLAS / SCOPE MATTERS

A source for a name
isn’t a source for a score.

Identity, description, imagery and numerical coordinates are reviewed separately. The source panels on individual profiles state which claims have references.

Catalog entries

These counts come from the current source registry. Latest recorded source-claim review: . This agent-assisted source review is not an independent human expert panel.

Catalog positions are editorial interpretations. A linked biography, legal status or definition does not validate twelve scores, a ranking against your profile, or an endorsement. Historical aggregates and changing political systems need an identified period and per-axis rationale.

Some artwork is labeled as illustration, and reviewed misleading images are withheld. A displayed flag or portrait alone does not establish its historical attribution, identity or license.

PROPOSED RESEARCH / NOT COMPLETED STUDIES

Better claims begin
with better evidence.

This is a development roadmap. No research recruitment is running here, and visiting or completing an assessment does not enroll you in a study.

  1. Define the use and audience.

Specify what each score is meant to support. Have qualified reviewers and intended users examine instructions, constructs and result understanding.

  2. Study the actual administration.

Plan separate, informed opt-in research. Preregister questions, sampling and analyses; choose sample sizes for the intended estimates rather than a universal target.

  3. Estimate the important limits.

Examine reliability, structure, repeatability, item behavior and relevant group or device comparisons. Publish uncertainty and limitations, not just a single reliability statistic.

  4. Earn each stronger interpretation.

Population percentiles need an appropriate reference population. A broad IQ claim, translated form or adaptive test requires further evidence for that particular use.

  5. Publish and maintain the record.

Release methods and aggregate findings, name real reviewer contributions, preserve editions, and revisit claims when instruments, populations or delivery change.

The roadmap draws on the AERA/APA/NCME Testing Standards (new tab)↗ and ITC/ATP technology-based assessment guidance (new tab)↗. They are guidance for planned work, not certification of Ownfacet.
